After fifteen years inside the systems most of my clients now work in, further education, skills, higher education, apprenticeship and workforce development, I started ELEV8 because I’d watched the same patterns repeat across organisation after organisation, and I couldn’t keep working inside them without trying to do something about it.

The patterns weren’t dramatic. They didn’t make headlines. But they cost organisations talent, energy and trust – year after year, quietly.

What I kept watching

I watched performance management used as a tool for control rather than growth. I watched authoritarian leadership styles suffocate innovation while the same leaders praised “agility” in their newsletters. I watched capable people burn out inside cultures that talked openly about wellbeing but couldn’t, or wouldn’t, name the actual cause.

I watched managers promoted for technical expertise into roles that required something entirely different and then quietly criticised for not magically becoming people leaders overnight.

I also watched the well-meant fixes fail. Wellbeing weeks. Values workshops. Engagement surveys. Leadership development programmes that gave a fortnight of uplift and then evaporated. None of them were wrong. Most of them were genuinely good. They just couldn’t do what people quietly hoped they would do, which is fix the thing that none of them was designed to fix.

What I came to understand

The thing nobody told me when I took on a senior leadership role was that culture isn’t built on the day you write the strategy. It’s built (or eroded) in the small, daily moments where leaders either tell the truth or look away.

That insight changed how I thought about everything. Wellbeing campaigns don’t fix toxic cultures. Honesty does. Values workshops don’t change behaviour. Leaders modelling the values does. People don’t leave because the package is wrong. They leave because the culture wore them down faster than the workload did.

So I built ELEV8

It isn’t a leadership programme. It isn’t a wellbeing strategy. It isn’t a culture transformation. It’s the slower, harder work of helping leaders design the cultures they actually want: on purpose, not by accident.

The framework I’ve ended up with is the Power of 8: eight leadership behaviours that quietly shape every workplace, every day.

Evaluate. Educate. Communicate. Integrate. Collaborate. Cultivate. Celebrate. Facilitate.

Eight verbs. Each one, done well, makes the next one possible. Each one, done badly or not at all, becomes the gap that culture drift falls through.

Who this is for

I work with values-led organisations: colleges, MATs, training providers, charities, social enterprises, NHS teams. The kind of organisation where the work matters, the pressure is constant, and the people carry a lot.

The leaders I work with care deeply. They’re not lacking insight, they’re lacking time, language, or systems to act on what they already know. They’ve usually tried the standard answers and noticed the dial didn’t move. They want something more honest.

That’s the work of ELEV8.

If this is your organisation

If any of this reads like the inside of your organisation, get in touch. No deck. No pitch. A real conversation about what’s actually going on.
